The Opera House, located in Oslo is brimming in sophisticated aesthetics and invites all guests to gaze and adorn its modern beauty as well as walk in, around, even on top of it!  Visitnorway.com describes the unique structure of The Oslo Opera House,

The main classical horseshoe shaped auditorium, which is one of the most technologically advanced in the world, offers great scenographic flexibility and fantastic acoustics.  From the outside, the most striking feature is the white sloping stone roof, which rises directly up from the Oslofjord allowing visitors to enjoy a stroll and take in views of the city.

The striking slanting roof metaphors Norway’s picturesque landscape in the mountains.

The pristine infrastructure was opened in 2008 and not only hosts the country’s operas but many cultural events.  The immaculate building is one of ingenious design and outstretched arms to every person.  The Fontes Artis Musicae Editors’ News reported on the Opera’s opening event and declared the inner part of the Opera House consists of 1,100 rooms for different purposes scattered on 38,500 square meters. The stage areas cover 8,300 square meters, while the audience areas are 11,200 square meters (n/a 2008).

Overall, The Opera House is a wonderful cultural piece and should be visited by all attendees of the winter Olympics

The Northern Lights

Norway, positioned in the Arctic Circle, holds a front row view of the awe-inspiring Northern Lights. The Lights beckon all visitors to gaze at its beautiful illusion.  According to the Columbia Encyclopedia, Norway is often said to have the strongest view of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)(N/a 2009). Among the most magnificent of natural phenomena, auroral displays appear in shades of red, yellow, green, blue, and violet and are usually brightest in their most northern latitudes (N/a 2009). According to the Norway tourism website, the best times to see the Northern Lights occur over winter, particularly in February during the Olympics.

What To Eat

Picture
Norway is vast in its variety of food ranging from culturally specific cuisine to American Mcdonalds which allows visitors options in their personal experience at Norway.  In addition, prices of meals can vary to one's taste.

According to Oslo's official travel site, Norway’s chefs are among the best in the world, and Oslo’s restaurants boast several of them. A total of five Oslo restaurants are entitled to advertise their prestigious Michelin Guide rating (n/a 2010).

Among one of the highest rated restaurants is, is De Fem Stuer, which is conveniently located in Oslo.  De Fem Stuer is described by the official travel and visitor site of Oslo as, "International cuisine with a Norwegian slant; the dishes are based on fresh seasonal Norwegian raw materials. The restaurant's cooks participate in international competitions, both as individuals and on the national team. In addition to the food, you can enjoy the art and culture of the more than 100-year-old building, a museum in itself" (n/a 2010). A review from the New York Time claims,
the chefs make an excellent marinated whale meat in a saffron-and-chili sauce. Or, you might prefer to try dishes such as the guinea hen with foie gras or the pesto-griddled ocean crayfish with tiny peas" (N/A 2010). Oslo De Fem Stuer is a gem and while on the pricier side, a worth while cultural taste.

If one is having a hard time deciding on where to eat, keep in mind Many travel from afar simply to enjoy Norway's famous and notorious delicacy, seafood. Due to its location, Norway is known around the world for its freshly prepared seafood.  According to an article from seafoodfromnorway.com, "An expert panel has ranked the world’s fishing nations according to how well they comply with the UN regulations for responsible fishery. Norway is at the head of the list."(Gaumy 2009).  It is impossible to go wrong with Norway's bounty of fish and excellent chefs

Transportation

Norway is a smaller country, but the nation is overflowing with sights and places to visit.  This would be compounded by an array of Olympic games taking place.  Norway is well prepared for an influx of travelers as well as natives venturing from home.  With Oslo as the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics the possibilities to arrive and enjoy the city as well as others are numerous.
Oslo is one of the eight ports for the partially water bound country (CIA World Factbook).  This variety of ports ranging from Oslo in the southern coast and wrapping around the west to the northernmost tip of the country provides many points of access.  The amount of ports could greatly help decrease waits and delays with an overabundance of travelers in one location.  Another benefit of numerous ports is that individuals can choose a port nearest their place of residence during the games.

The ports of Norway are well maintained and open, but travelers from farther abroad are more likely to fly.  According to the CIA World Factbook there are nearly one hundred airports.  Each of these airports will be great assets for Olympic travelers.  As is common with highly popularized individuals, Olympians may prefer a quieter entrance to the hosting country, Norway.  Safety is crucial to travelers, and this is paramount to athletes as it can inhibit optimal performance.  With a specialized airport strictly for incoming athletes, safety and security could be more ensured than if they were arriving in many different ways.  Travel between airport and city can be a tricky situation for some travelers, but there are a number of railways that travel from Oslo airport to other cities.   These travel ready amenities will provide native and foreign visitors alike with smooth transportation to and from games as well as an opportunity to see all else that Norway presents.
